Ares is one Greek god, and he is Zeus's first child. While he isn't favored by his parents nor any of the other gods he loves, Aphrodite is his closest and most faithful lover. The god is often associated to violence in all its ugly forms and with war. He is associated with violence, blood, indiscriminate killing and the destruction or life.
Ares was a war god
Ares was ancient Greece's war god. He embodied the most violent and barbaric parts of war, and he was the brother of Athena, who represented the honorable and benevolent aspects of war. Although Ares was the god of war, the Greeks believed that he could also help individuals in their personal battles.
He was a lover of Aphrodite

A Greek myth describes a secret love story between Ares (the Greek god) and Aphrodite (the Greek goddess). Ares was not popular in the ancient Greek myths. Hephaestus held him in contempt, and he was indeed a god.
He was a bloodthirsty warden
Ares, god of war was a bloodthirsty madman who thrived off destruction. The Greeks worshiped him from about 1200 BC. He was born in Thrace. His people were very fearsome. Because of his bloodthirsty nature, Ares wasn't a popular god, and he was often bested in battle. He was also frequently put into a container by giants and was often the victim Of Athena's Retribution.
He was a symbol to indiscriminately slaughter
Ares was the Greek god war. He was depicted as the man who pierces a shield and sacks a city in mythology. He represented the more brutal side of battle and was opposed to Athena who represents a more strategic manner of war. Ares was a powerful god. He was often pictured alongside his brothers Phobos (and Deimos) and with his sister Eris. His symbols are a knife and a spear. He is also associated to the boar, vulture and dead carcasses.

Athena fell to Ares, and a great sea thundered behind. The earth quaked beneath their immortal feet. Their battle-cries rose across the sky, from the high heavens to Hades’ abyss to the lowlands. Both gods und men cried in pain.
Spartan warriors were fond of him.
Spartan life was centred around the powerful Spartan army. To begin military training, boys as young seven-years old can leave their home. They could not find another vocation or education. The Spartans worshipped Ares, who was a symbol of Sparta’s values. The city was home to a statue of Ares in chains.
He is the Roman god Mars' ancestor
Ares, the ancestor to the god Mars and father of the founders Romulus, Romulus, and Remus, is known as Ares. Although Ares was disliked by many gods, Aphrodite loved him. Aphrodite preferred handsome Ares to her mortal husband, Hephaestus.
