Ancient Greeks believed the gods were perfect
Ancient Greeks believed many gods. Each god controlled a different aspect human life. The Greeks often prayed to their gods, and offered offerings to specific temples. They believed that good things would come if the gods were happy and that bad things could happen if they got angry. To honor the gods the Ancient Greeks built shrines or temples all throughout their cities.
Although the Greek gods were unique individuals, they were basically the same as human beings. The Trojan War saw the Greek gods siding with the Greeks and the Trojans opposing them. In other myths of ancient Greek myths the gods had human qualities, and had families and close relationships.

The Greek people believed that the gods were mortal, but they also believed that they were not entirely good or evil. They valued kindness and cruelty over slights, which was what their gods showed. Priests, who were responsible for performing religious ceremonies and serving the gods, are now inviolate. Priests were not the only ones who served gods. However, they had knowledge of the Greek religious laws and rituals. The citizens also had the opportunity to consult exegetes. These were state officials that were well-versed in religious affairs. Priests could also be served by women. They were often virgins or had gone through menopause.

The Orthodox Church of Greece strongly accuses pagans of idolatry.
Although most Greeks identify themselves with Orthodox Christians, many Greeks still believe that the Greek gods are real. Many polytheists adopt Greek names and use the old calendar. While these people may not be as common as most Greeks or the ancient religion, they are more than 100,000.
