Haugbui
The haugbui is a ghost or spectre that is often depicted as evil or restless, returning to haunt the living. The term haugbui is also used for a demon. These spirits are associated with the dead and protect areas around a burial site. They can be described as powerful demons seeking to prolong life. Haugbui may also serve as guardians to ritual items.
Haugbui has a strong association with vampires. But, this isn't all. The Haugbui is also associated to Bjorn, a character from Hrolfs. He is a cave bear. He is also said to be able to control a bear's mind.
Uppsala temple
Adam mentions Uppsala's Norse sacred temple and the sacred grove nearby. Adam does not specify the exact shape of the temple, nor the rituals carried out there. He mentions statues of Odin, Thor, and Freyr and an open-air sanctuary, where officiants could draw upon elemental powers.
Adam's account is the most comprehensive yet, but the details of the Norse cult remain disputed. However, the archaeological evidence for Uppsala has been steadily increasing in the last three decades. Excavations at Uppsala reveal grave sites, settlements, as well as different types of workshops. This suggests that Uppsala was a significant Viking town.
